Written by Sister Rafia Tahir
In today’s world: in movies, songs, or magazines, sexualization is emphasized. These and other forms of media all lead to distortion of the human mind or perversion.
While we, as Muslims, believe that sexual desire is a gift of Allah, every desire should be under control, or it’ll lead to destruction. Sexual desire is given to us to procreate and continue the human race. But, if we give in to these desires, we might spiral down the path of lust.
Lust is one of the biggest sins known to us. A sin that makes a person numb. Once you’ve yielded in lust, you forget about its consequences and dig deep until you are far from forgiveness.
Therefore, Muslims seek refuge in Allah from such sins. Having sexual desires is a natural phenomenon, but one should know how to control them. And in this blog post, we will help you learn ten powerful duas to resist sexual temptations.
Ten Powerful Duas
Resisting sexual temptations can be challenging; after all we are no saints. With the media filled with explicit content challenging our moral values, we can turn to Allah to seek guidance.
And what better way is there than supplication? It is a great way to connect to our Creator and protect ourselves from surrendering to these temptations.
- Seek Guidance from Allah
(28:24)
My Lord! I am truly in desperate need of whatever provision You may have in store for me.
This supplication is by Prophet Musa (peace and blessings be upon him). It reflects on our dependence on God and how we ask Him to help us in difficult times. We can recite this dua daily to seek help from Allah in making ethical choices. Daily life problems or puzzling thoughts related to sexual desires recite this dua with a sincere heart.
- Protection From Evil
(23:97-98)
My Lord! I seek refuge in You from the temptations of the devils. And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, that they even come near me.
Satan is our biggest enemy. It compels us to act on our intrusive thoughts. Shaitaan is constantly working to lead us astray and confuse us with our beliefs. Hence, recite this dua and ask him to shield you from the manipulative tactics of shaitan.
Another thing to mention, while marriage is considered the best way to address sexual desires, it’s better to wait until a person is physically and mentally mature. Matrimony is more than a contract between two people. It carries responsibility and complications. Nonetheless, we suggest you pray and consider dua istikhara before a wedding.
- Ask to Purify your Heart
Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) would say the dua:
(Riyad as-Salihin 1479)
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the inability (to do good), idleness, cowardice, miserliness, weakness, and torment of the grave. O Allah! Grant me the sense of devotion and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the knowledge which is not beneficial, and from a heart which does not fear (You), and from desire which is not satisfied, and from the prayer which is not answered.
Since we are addressing sexual temptations and lust here, it makes sense that we beg Allah to cleanse our hearts. Purify our souls from anything that may become an obstacle in becoming a better Muslim or performing prayers, and guide us to the right path.
- Pray for your Modesty
O Allah, indeed, I ask You for Your love and the love of those who love You, and for the action that will cause me to attain Your love, O Allah, make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family, and cold water.
It is a powerful supplication where you ask Allah to love you. You ask Him to bring you closer to things that He loves and bring you closer to your deen. It also means that you ask God to avert you from the forbidden.
There is also a Hadith where the Prophet (PBUH) tells us that when Allah is happy with a servant, he tells Gabriel and everyone in heaven to love you, and there are blessings upon you on earth. Getting closer to those whoever Allah loves and fearing His resentment can help you lead a modest life.
- Dua for Self-Control
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from undesirable manners, deeds, and aspirations.
In this supplication, we ask Allah to protect us from unpleasant deeds, desires, and manners. We seek strength and self-control to combat these thoughts. We acknowledge that Allah can make the difficult easy and permit us to defy these sexual urges.

- Dua for Gratitude
(27:19)
My Lord! Inspire me to (always) be thankful for Your favours which You have blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please You. Admit me, by Your mercy, into the company of Your righteous servants.
This supplication encourages us to be grateful for the blessings of the Almighty. It also asks Allah to grant us knowledge of our deen and guide us on the right path. It enables us to be open to learning and rectifying ourselves to become righteous individuals.
- Pray for Emotional Health
O Allah, I seek refuge in you from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (i.e., others).
Mental health has been in the limelight for the past few years. People have finally started to pay attention to its effects on their daily lives. And one such effects of a damaged emotional being our uncontrolled sexual desires. These negative emotions weaken us and lead us wrong. Thus, pray for strength and good mental health to combat such issues.
- Seek Allah’s Forgiveness
O Allah, forgive me all my sins, great and small, the first and the last, those that are apparent and those that are hidden.
All of us have some sins under our belts. But what helps us be a better person is repentance. Acknowledging our mistakes and asking God to forgive is the initial step to goodness. Ask Allah for forgiveness so you can move forward and try not to repeat certain acts that Allah resents.
- Dua for Faith
O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.
This supplication is among the frequent dua of the Prophet (PBUH). It is to ask Allah to keep our hearts faithful to our religion. We recite this dua to seek Allah’s assistance in strengthening our faith, which also includes resisting sexual temptations.
- Dua for Sexual Temptation
O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of what I hear, from the evil of what I see, from the evil of what I speak, from the evil of what I think, and from the evil of my semen” (i.e., sexual passion).
We, as Muslims, should live our lives according to the teachings of Islam. We should act in a way that pleases our God. And refrain from acts that displease Him. We should protect our body parts from wrongdoings and observe a modest lifestyle.
Conclusion
With continuous efforts, self-discipline, and help from God through these powerful duas: you can resist sexual temptations, too. Although it is challenging, be patient and stay focused on your deen. The more you focus on your faith and pleasing your God, the more you can refrain from acts that will affect your relationship with Allah.
Make these duas a part of your routine and seek guidance from Allah to overcome these struggles. Always remember that Allah is merciful and will always forgive us if we ask with a sincere heart. With consistent efforts, we can lead a virtuous life. May Allah protect us from evil temptations and guide us to the right path. Ameen.
